    How sertraline works

The FDA has approved sertraline for the treatment of depression, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), panic disorder and social anxiety disorder (SAD). Sertraline is also used for a number of other problems, such as: Sertraline has been approved to treat severe OCD in children between the ages of 6 and 17. Therapy is usually started at 50 mg/day and the dose is increased at weekly intervals if necessary. Children and older people often need smaller doses of medication and may start with 25 mg/day. People with liver disease may need a smaller dose of sertraline. We don't know exactly what causes depression and other mental health problems, but one theory that is pretty well-accepted is that there is chemical imbalance in the brain and nervous tissue. Several chemicals called neurotransmitters help nerve cells communicate, and serotonin is one of those chemicals. Nerve impulses cause the cell to release serotonin. The serotonin travels across the gap between cells and attaches to the other cell. Sertraline is a serotonin selective reuptake inhibitor; it keeps serotonin from being reabsorbed and allows it to accumulate, restoring chemical balance. Had an increase in anxiety from day one, the anxiety has been increasing each day. Have read that increased anxiety is a side effect of this med but wasn’t expecting it to be so bad for so long, have also read that things get worse before they get better. Hoping and praying that like a lot of people who leave reviews this med will soon start to kick in so I can benefit from it. Seeing doc in a weeks time as not sure whether to stick with it or try something else.""Unfortunately not the one for me! I gave it 6 weeks with no positive response and side effects that were not getting better. Start up on this one is rough so I would definitely suggest you get Propranolol to curb the physical symptoms of the anxiety.

Dizziness, lack of interest, mood swings tired loss of appetite throwing up headaches and so on. When I started I was 58kg went down to 42kg had to wear kids cloths. I started at 25mg till we found the right dosage for me and that was 150mg. Once I found the right dosage and started feeling good again I had everything back including my weight. At this stage I was ok no anxiety, no panic attacks no fear no suicidal thoughts none of what I felt before. Last year because I was feeling good I decided to stop it. My Gp told me it was too soon but I heard so much about the tablets I just wanted to stop them. After a few wks I realised was to soon and asked my Gp to put me back on them. So I'm back on them and this time I went up very quickly.
